Just like flamingos, what we eat can affect us. We don’t turn pink like they do, but poor food choices can change our attitudes and also influence how well we think and sleep. We should always look to glorify God with our bodies–that’s why making good choices about what we eat and drink is very important

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31

Flamingos Facts:

  • Flamingos can be red, orange, or pink. The food that they eat—shrimp, plankton, algae, and crustaceans—give them their color. The better the falmingo eats the better the color. Flamingos whose sole diet is blue-green algae are darker in color.
  • They can run on water, picking up speed before they take flight because they have webbed feet.
  • Flamingos eat upside down. Putting it’s head in the water it sucks up water and small mollusks and crustaceans and filters the water through it’s beak retaining the food it needs.
  • A flock/group of flamingos is called a stand or a flamboyance.
  • They love water and will be found around lagoons or lakes.
  • They live in colonies of thousands of birds.
  • Flamingos are the national bird of the Bahamas.

They have webbed feet which help them run on the water.
Flamingos are born, fluffy with grayish-red plumage, Flamingo parents will only have 1 egg per year. (No sibling rivalry there.)
Flamingos eat with their heads upside down. They filter the water with their beaks and their tongues are well adapted to help them in the process. They will stamp their feet to stir up food.
They have a high tolerance to drinking very hot–near boiling temperature water. They like fresh water to drink and if a gyeser is nearby they will sometimes be seen drinking from that water.
Scientists don’t know why the flamingo is often seen standing on one leg. One theory is that it conserves body heat but the flamingo actually better balance on one leg.
Flamingos like to eat plankton, crustaceans like shrimp, mollusks like snails, algae, small fish and insects. They are omnivores. Eat both meat and vegetation.
