Simple Advent Caledar
Create a super simple advent calendar to share. Put your favorite scripture verses on each card, encouraging words, write a special memory or offer to do a task/chore. The possibilities are endless and so is the creativity with this fun craft.
Several years ago I made this with a piece of wood and a nail and put special memories and scripture on each card. I gave it to my mother–she loved it and re-uses it every year. Have fun making these for your family and friends.
Supplies Needed:
- Blank cards, index cards or download the template
- Acrylic paints, paintbrushes
- Glue, Hot Glue Gun*, or Super Glue*
- Small dowel or small stick
- Scrap cardboard
- Colored pens, pencils or other decorating items
- Hole puncher
- Scissors
*Using hot glue or Super glue will increase strength
Directions:
- Cut two small panels from the cardboard. Make sure they are the same size. I used the end flaps of a discarded cardboard box.
- Make a mark approximately where you want your stick/card holder to be.
- Push the stick through one piece of cardboard (using a twisting action helps)
- Glue both pieces of cardboard together. Then push the stick through the second piece of cardboard. Apply glue to the stick and insert it into the holes so that the stick is flush with the back side of the carboard. Let the glue dry before painting the cardboard.(be sure not to get glue on your working surface)
- Punch holes through all 25 cards–near the top. (Try to place the hole in the same place each time.)
- On one side of the card draw the number for each day.
- On the other side of the card write scripture, an encouraging word, a special thought or whatever you like.
God commanded that his people encourage each other because he knows how much we need it. We can be a witness even with the simple thing. A word of encouragement can go a long way to brighten someone’s day.
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:11
